Recreational Vehicle Insurance Coverages
There are six basic coverage types. Some are required by law, while others are optional. They include:
- Bodily injury liability – This option covers injuries the policyholder causes to someone else.
- Medical payments or personal injury protection (PIP) – This option covers the treatment of injuries to the driver and passengers of the policyholder’s car.
- Property damage liability – This option covers damage caused to someone else’s property by the policyholder.
- Collision – This option covers collision-related damage to the policyholder’s car.
- Comprehensive – This option covers damage to the policyholder’s unrelated to a collision with another car (including damage from fire, explosions, earthquakes, floods, and riots), and theft.
- Uninsured motorists’ coverage – This option covers costs resulting from accidents involving a hit-and-run driver or an uninsured driver.
- Contents Coverage – This option covers damage or loss of the contents of the recreational vehicle. Contents coverage is typically purchased at a set amount not to be exceeded in a claim payout.
